How does discipline make the childish wise?

When you punish someone who makes fun of others, childish people get wise. If you teach a person who is already wise, he will get even more knowledge.
-Pro 21:11 NIrV #faithbits

As I understand it, this means even the immature can learn from the mistakes other's make. If a mocker gets punished, those who are immature can see the outcome of his behavior and learn not to immitate him. Thus, the childish get wise.

Believer's Bible Commentary states:

"Even if a scoffer might not learn a lesson from the punishment he receives, the naive person will see it and be warned. A wise man doesn't need to be punished; he will learn from simple instruction."

Bible Knowledge Commentary reads:

As stated in Pro_19:25 (a verse almost identical with Pro_22:11) the public punishment of a scoffer may cause the simple (peṯı̂, “naive, openminded”) to become wise.
